The "Living Factory" (How Biologics are Grown)
Traditional drugs are like baking a cake by mixing dry ingredients. Biopharmaceuticals, however, are more like growing a prize-winning garden.
The Blueprint: Scientists start with a living cell—like yeast or a tiny piece of an animal cell—and give it a new set of "instructions" (DNA) to create a specific medicine.
The Greenhouse: These cells are placed in large, sterile tanks called bioreactors. Inside, the cells are kept at a perfect temperature and "fed" a special soup of nutrients so they can multiply and produce the medicine.
The Pure Harvest: After a few weeks, the liquid is filtered many times to remove the cells, leaving behind only the pure medicine. Because it comes from a living source, it is much more complex and powerful than a simple chemical pill.
